Does the DB fork at some point? If yes, then what are all the situation where a split-brain situation can occur, and how to avoid them?

Is this situation self-healing or does it require manual intervention from the client side?

Not possible, it is a CP not an AP database. See CAP Theorem — FoundationDB 7.2
