Is there is any basis for the rumor of change of Apple participation in the FoundationDB?

Hi all,

My team is considering to use FoundationDB for the new project. We got a feedback from architect that they believe that Apple is sun setting its involvement with FoundationDB.
We can’t find any confirmation of this on the Internet, but the possibility of this makes taking this decision a tougher sale in our org.
Can you please provide information if there is any basis for this rumor or it’s some kind of mistake.

Thank you,

This is an unfounded rumor. We are committed to improve FoundationDB as before and it’s a critical infrastructure for iCloud. In fact, the open source version is always the one we used in production, before, now, and in the foreseeable future.

Thank you!
This is great news for us.

I would also like to add there are other major stakeholders that use FoundationDB, such as VMware, Snowflake and I think Adobe as well.

There would be a mutual benefit to keeping the project OSS and open for contributions even if Apple was to stop development.
