The server seems to still work if you force uninstall the client after installing the server (with rpm -e --nodeps)

Isn’t fdbcli part of the client package? Maybe that’s why it is needed?
I believe that is correct. Part of the server package install is to configure a new database, and that can’t happen without fdbcli.
